I get to the setup screen that says its installing devices such as keyboard and mouse. The progress bar gets about half way through then freezes for a minute. Then I get an error "Hardware Malfunction. Call your vendor" My keyboard and mouse work fine so I know that's not the problem. Any ideas?

I'm using an MSI K7T Pro 2a rev.2 with 256mb ram, tbird 750, 80gb maxtor, xpert 128

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Interestingly, I got that very same error with that mobo back in December, I simply took all my devices out that I didn't need for just booting and installing windows. Install went fine after that and I had no trouble installing the rest of my devices, and this rig has been rock solid. Not sure which device(s) was the culprit, but I notice we have some similar devices.

is that a clean install or upgrade ....i had a similar error and found installing ME (yes ME )first and then installing W2K set up for dual boot cured the setup error .or do has above with just enough periphals to run basic and set bios to defaults or lower any tweaked settings to default .

good luck

I took out all my cards (2 nics, 1 modem) and set my bios to default. It worked. Wow, win 2k is so damn stable. Can't believe I put up with ME for so damn long...
