using the recovery console, how do you change the contents of a file? i know you can "type" the file, but i want to edit it.

they way i do it is i copy it to a floppy, go to another computer and edit it, then copy it back =)

Hi,

You can get the Recovery Console to give you access to the floppy drive by going to Start | Programs | Administrative Tools (or Start | Settings | Control Panel | Administrative Tools) then opening the Local Security Policy applet. Expand the tree in the left pane of the Local Security Settings dialog, and choose the Security Settings | Local Policies | Security Options item. In the right pane of the dialog, locate the entry named "Recovery Console: Allow floppy copy and access to all drives and all folders". Double-click it, set it to Enabled, click OK. Now select Security Settings in the left pane of the Local Security Settings dialog. In the Action menu, choose Reload. Now go back to check the item you enabled to assure yourself that it is listed as Enabled in the Effective Setting column. Quit the Local Security Settings dialog. That should do the trick.

Regards,
Jim
