hey all, have been using 2k for about 2 weeks.. Everything is running great.. only rebbot once every couple days.. but i have a question

everyone say that 2k is supposed to free up ram when it is done right??

well say i just boot up, clean reboot..

i have 82 megs of ram used

i play quake 3 for about 10 minutes..

amd then when i get back to my desktop and check task manager.. i have 105 used...

THIS is NO big deal, but i just thouht that 2k was supposed to release it when it was done..

thanks all

I have noticed this too. I boot with around 115 MB of RAM being used as displayed by the Task Manager. After using the system for several days this number keeps creeping up. I remember yesterday I rebooted without having done so for about four days. With all programs closed the Task Manager said my memory usage was over 180 MB's! What is taking up all this memory? When I look under what processes I have running again in the Task Manager, the combined memory usage of these processes can not account for the total memory usage displayed by the Task Manager.

win2k isn't PERFECT. compare ram usage after Q3 to win98, and you'll see why 2k is superior

btw..i'm not sure how you see ram usage in win98 :)

i know

you just get a % number in 98...

well if someone here is running 98, leave it on for 2 days.. and tell me how low your memory gets..

one thing is that, the computer doesn't lag, when ram gets close to 50 percent!!

ANYONE ELSE?!???

i am not familiar yet with 2k, that is why i am askin, i know there are some 2k gurus out there!! ;)!!!!!!!!

hold up. what exactly are you looking at? commit charge peak? or total versus available physical memory?
