Win 2k Pro video error

I had a computer with Win XP Pro that I needed to make a dual boot with Win 2000 Pro. I didn't want to take the effort to format so I can install Win 2000 first and then reinstall Win XP (everyone recommends that for some reason), but instead I left Win XP on and just installed Win 2000 on a separate hard drive.

Everything went smoothly except the video driver wasn't detected properly and I was stuck in 16 color mode. I was busy with other projects and instead of trying to fix that I just started downloading the newest service pack (SP3). Then I suddenly needed Win XP back and applied the fix (copying two files from the Win XP CD to the Win XP hard drive) and went on with my day.

Now I'm trying to get back to Win 2000 and it reboots the computer with a brief blue screen error. It is only on the screen for about 1/3rd of a second so all I've been able to see is that it says video error. I cannot even get into Win 2000 in safe mode (I get further without Safe mode). Either the cause is SP3 or the Win XP boot fix.

Is there a way I can get into Win 2000? Or do I have to start over again and reinstall Win 2000? This isn't a big deal but it will put me behind schedule by a half day.

try the recovery console?

Well I ended up just reinstalling the thing. By the way, everyone keeps recommending trying the recovery console to fix everything. All I can see that it does is to bring up dos. Well that doesn't do much unless you know what files to move around, what to edit, etc. So just saying use the console is just as effective as answering our questions by saying - just fix it.
