1. I can't get drives in the 2k machine shared on my network. I keep reading that I need to the properties of the file and printer sharing tab in my network component but when i highlight it, the properties button is grayed out. I can see the 2000 machine in network properties from a 98 machine, but when I try to map to it, it asks for a password. I haven't set a password.

2. I'm trying to setup two users. The first user was setup when I installed 2k and seems to work fine. The second user however doesn't seem to save any of its settings. When you log off and log back on, it acts like a first boot. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

3. The power user permissions setting is not giving me access to the CD burners and is giving me fits from the errors. How can I give CD burner permissions to the power user group?

Thanks, I really need some help.

1) Try enabling the guest account, I had trouble sharing drives until it was enabled.

2) Log on as a user with admin rights them go to Control Panel, Users and Passwords and setup the 2nd account. It should be there when you log back on.

3) Do you mean you can?t run the burning software? If so the easiest way would be to log on as a user with admin rights then right click on the task bar go to properties, advanced tab, advanaced button, find the short cut for the burning program and copy it to the folder you want it in the all users group.

#3 won't help.

W2K and XP require advanced rights for a user to be able to burn a CD. Search for previous posts on this topic. If you're using Nero, there's a setting they provide that can enable *just* the rights necesary. (It's in the help file).

Well, I'm sitting here laughing my butt off... but its laughter from frustration. I understand what you guys are telling me, but I still can't get any of it to work.

1. I have a guest account enabled. Maybe I'm just not understanding what you mean here.

2. For some reason, the account is now holding its settings, I don't have any idea why it wasn't before.

3. It is indeed Nero I'm having problems with. I found the help page that says to go to File>properties or something like that but I don't see the settings it is speaking of. This brings up another question though, I get some other errors with things like motherboard monitor not finding its drivers when logged on in power user accounts. There must be a way to tell windows that these are ok for power users. I know this will come up with more important software as I get into this.

Thanks for the help.

Have you read the FAQs yet? They cover a lot of the basics on home networking.

Once you've gone through them, come back and post again, w/ some more details about your setup, and your problems. Then we can try and help you, without going over all the basic stuff outlined in the FAQ.
