Win 2k or Hardware problem?

I have recently upgraded a machine from windows ME to Windows 2000 (this is the 3rd pc and the 1st to have a problem) While trying to connect to the internet using a broadband connection, the server can not be found. After talking to a support rep with RoadRunner, I am still in need of help!?

The rep was able to ping the machine. He could see when I was unplugging the modem, etc. Basically I have a connection, but can not get on the web??? I have released the ip address, reinstalled TCP/IP and about everything else in that category. Reinstalled the NIC....and so on and so on.

I am under the impression that I am going to have to reinstall win 2k, but wondered if anyone else had this problem and wanted to know if so, what did you do?

Thank you for you help!

For starters, in tcp/ip settings for internet connection make sure you've correctly entered the proper iIP addresses for the host, gateway, DNS servers, etc.

I check for a firewall being set....maybe I overlooked something......the DNS # are obtained automatically, but I did try the known # from the providers without any luck....

Appreciate all the help....think I may just reinstall the OS or maybe have to start clean, but hate doing that!

try logging in 2k as Administrator (w/ the passwd u supplied at the installation o course)
try setting up your connection....if it works..
you must add your user name to the AllowLaunchList and the userlist.. in the Control Panel>Admin Tools

hope that helps...

try using internet connection wizard that might help and check you internet explorer settings and see if the options are properly configured. Then ping www.google.com if you can ping it on your end then their is a problem with the way you set up internet explorer if not you may want to call your dsl company again.

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP....I simply reinstalled......sort of a pain to reinstall all the drivers, but at least it is working.....thanks again
