I wish to dump Win 9x,can 2k be my sole OS with the proper drivers,or am i stuck with 9x for now? What problems may i encounter in this venture? What are the drawbacks of the two OS' compared reguarding a gaming environment?

It all depends on what games you play and what your hardware is.

I switched from 95 to w2k, but 8 months later, I switched to 98SE.

Why? Because some software gave me trouble.

Q3A, UT, Half-Life all worked fine.

NHL2001 worked for the most part.

Liveware always gave me trouble.

NFSHS would not install.

It's all in what you play.

Take a look at www.ntcompatible.com

Playing I'm Going In,Covert Ops,Quake 3 Arena,Motorcross Madness 2,Delta Force Land Warrior.
Which driver version is recommended?

MassMhz,

are you having the same lockups im having with Land Warrior? if not what detonators are you using?

oh wait... hehee you haven't actually made the leap to 2k yet 🙂

ive had good luck with the rogue spear games, but land warrior keeps locking.

the problem appears to be my soundcard/soundcard drivers or something... windows detects it as a sblive basic and it locks in landwarrior, if I install the pci512 drivers, it does the same thing in land warrior. but I know its either a sound issue or IRQ conflict.. cause I removed the card completely from device manager and I can play Land warrior now just fine.. now I just need to figure what is going on with the soundcard/IRQ/drivers... 🙁

Could be IRQs. I removed ACPI when I installed it and thus have nothing sharing IRQs. There are threads in here that will tell you how to get rid of ACPI and prevent IRQ sharing, if you want to try that. A quick search should find them.

My soundcard is a SB Live also btw.

That did it Juiio! It seems my soundblaster pci512 does not like sharing! I had to disable my USB ports until I can figure out how to get IRQ9+2 back from the ACPI controller in the bios. funny though the other games didn't seem to have a problem. perhaps it was just how DFLW was accessing the soundcard.

Thanks a bunch for your tips and encouragement.
