I am building my first computer and was looking to run Windows 2000 and Linux. I have already purchased most of the hardware, but still have some questions. Here is my system:

700Mhz Duron (Got a good deal on it)
Abit KT7-RAID
128MB Mushkin High Perf. Mosel Rev 1.5 222 RAM
IBM Deskstar 75GXP HD
Pioneer DVD-115
Hercules 3d Prophet II MX
Linksys Etherfast 10/100
Fong Kai FK-603 Case

My primary use for this machine would be to learn Linux, browse the net and play games. For this purpose, I would see a Win98SE/Linux dual boot as the best option. However, I'd also like to play with Win2k. So my questions are:

1. Would I be able to use Win2k for a gaming machine or is the performance/compatibilty to poor?
2. Is dual booting Win2k and Linux easy to do?
3. Can I dual boot Win2k and linux or triple boot Win2k, Win98SE and Linux off the same drive and are there disadvantages of doing so? I haven't bought the drive yet, so I was wondering if I could get by with a 15GB or 30GB drive now and get another later.

1) Depends on what games you want to play... Most new games now will run in win2k, but if older games are what you want, then I suggest stick with win98...

2) Yes, very easy to do...

3) Yes you can dual-boot or triple-boot on the same drive... only need to partition the drive, and install the OS's into different partitions...

BTW, I personally would suggest you to get the 30Gig drive. Since, basically, you need at least 2G for each partition to get a decent installation of OS/programs. That will leave you for only 9G of free space. Also, the proce difference of these two drives are not too great, so in long term, I would suggest you the 30G one.

Actually not anymore, the lastest version of lilo solved this problem, and the new limitation is something like a couple terabyte.
