WIN 2K IRQ Question.

Hi there. Is it normal for win 2K pro to lump all PCI devices onto IRQ 11? If not how do I change it so that there are no overlaping devices.

PS everything plugged into the PCI bus is on irq 11 including the USB controller and AGP card. Also have a NIC, SCSI card and soundcard on there. Thanks for any info.

i've got the same issue with a 2k machine... apparently it isn't possible to manually set IRQs anymore, like in 95, 98, so i've got a bunch of devices grouped on IRQ11 and another bunch on IRQ21 (i think). you might have some luck rearranging some of your pci cards. occupy some of your empty slots if you have any... if someone knows how to manually control IRQs in 2000 please post... the fact that they're grouped isn't causing any noticeable problems, but the fact that i've got some IRQs which are completely open, i'd like to move some of the sharing devices onto the empty IRQs...

Ok,
Well the reason it does this is because of ACPI, it lumps all devices onto one IRQ, usually, not causing problems. Though in the odd time it may cause problems, in which case you can install the Standard PC driver, goto device manager, then under Computer, double click and update driver and select standard PC, though this may not work(seen times), and if you want to switch back to ACPI, you have to reformat, and reinstall Windows, afaik. Hope this shed a little light.

could make a ghost image of the system before updating the driver and then if it doesn't work out well you can do a quick restore...

Yeah, you'll have to disable ACPI to assign your own IRQ... i just did that recently and it's waaay better (more stable.. don't know if it's faster though, but some people claim disabling ACPI speeds up the OS).
