Win 2k file sharing password problem

I'm trying to setup a folder share between two Win 2k machines and I don't want to have to enter a username or password every time. Is there any way to do this?

I've setup the share, I've added the users of the remote machine to the userlist of the host and I've added the remote users to the allowed list in the shared folder.

Now I want to put a shortcut to the shared folder on the desktop of the remote machine and I don't want them to have to type a username every time but no matter what I've tried, it persists in asking for username.

What mistake have I made?

Thanks as always.

Check this link about how to configure windows 9x systems to share files with NT based systems. Their problem is authentication which is also your problem. It applies to NT based machines too.

Ok, some further info. If I hook my personal laptop into the network, I can access the shared folder just fine with no questions asked.

I have NOT setup a username on the host for my laptop.

What the heck is going on here. I must be misunderstanding something about the setup.

Do you have file and printer sharing enabled on your machines? It's in My Network Places in properties.
Go to properties of network adapter and make sure it's enabled. Make sure they have at least Read permissions to the share.
