What did the Event Viewer say? There should be error messages in there. If you copy them and paste them into a reply here, we'll be able to see what isn't starting, and maybe someone will know how to fix it. It's possible that this error is coming from a registry entry that wasn't removed when you uninstalled something. In that case, fixing the error will be as simple as deleting the registry reference to the service / device involved.
I wasn't sure from your message if you were aware of how to get to the Event log. Just log in as an Administrator, go to your Control Panel, open the Administrative Tools applet, double-click on the Event Viewer applet. In the "tree" in the left-hand pane of the Event Viewer, you'll see items named Applications, Security, and System. You'll need to check the Applications and System sections of Event Viewer to find the error messages you need. Sorry if this explanation was not needed. It can be hard to tell experience levels when dealing with issues like this via typed messages.
