Win 2K authentication code

I was doing a fresh install of a legitimate copy of Win 2K on a new harddrive, when I could not find the authentication code..so I cannot install it.

I still have Win 2K installed on the old harddrive. Is there any way to find he code in the registry on the old drive so I can reinstall on the new one. Or am I screwed?

I have tried all the search strings I could think of alread.y

As far as I can tell, the CD Key is not in the Registry for Windows 2000.

Perhaps you can ring up Microsoft and get a new one?

No, the General Tab on System Properties DOES NOT display the CD Key.

Andy,

Called Microsoft, they said to call the reseller, they could not help, so I am stuck with a worthless copy of Win 2K.

I swear the first time I installed it did not ask for an authentation code. It was an OEM version with E-Manual.

This was a year ago and I do not remember getting a code.

Oh well...

I don't understand how those two links above me are supposed to help this person. If you are looking for your CD key for Win2k, it should be on the backside of you CD case. If not, then if you have admin access to your existing Win2k, try running regedit and go to the following keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\

There should be a productkey (not productid).

Thor86: The product key is NOT located in the Registry. Go do a search for it and you won't find it.
