Hello all...
For backup purposes, I would like to try something with norton ghost.
Here we go...

my duel boot with 5 partitions has 98se/w2k.
c: 98se fat32
d: 2k NTFS
e: 2k NTFS
f: 98 fat32
e: storage fat32

I want to image my D: drive (Win 2k system files) with norton ghost.

Do I have to run the sys prep utility?? if so, what should I do for that??
I am studying up on win2k, but work is bogging me down. any hints??

Thanks!

You'll need Ghost 2001 (version 6.5 or higher) to image Windows 2000 NTFS5 partitions. Earlier versions can handle the NT4 version of NTFS but not W2K.

If it is for backup purposes then you don't need to run SYSPREP. That is only if you are planning on restoring the image to a different machine (which must be pretty similar to the one you have now).

I just imaged our lab here and found out that the first batch of machines I did from an image that had been made without using SYSPREP- it all still works because they are all identical machines. I found out it hadn't been SYSPREPED because the second batch of machines was a little different and wouldn't boot.

You can use other progs besides Ghost for this job. Drive Image and Image Cast are the other ones.

image cast

I dunno if ghost has a trial version you can sample, but image cast does. Drive image might too. Not sure though.
