Win 2K/9x dual boot question

Hi all,

In most 2k/9x dual boot cases, 9x is needed to be installed prior to 2k, which makes 9x to be on C: (or first partition) and 2k on the next logical drive since 2k overwrites the MBR on the hard drive. (Correct me if I am wrong)

I am just wondering if I can install 2k under C: and 9x under D:? Thanks in advance.

You can install either operating system to any partition you like, so long as both OSes have their boot files located on the Primary Active C partition. Simply specify the partition and directory that you want to install to during the installation.

Hey guys...I have a question too..

I just tried to dual boot 98 and whistler and had the same problem that I had with W2K...

I put the new os in a new partition and it wont boot at all, so I go to remove all the wasted space...well now 98 wont boot because the dam thing says cant find ntldr...I don't want NTLDR...I just want my 98 back.

You see, I have all my programs on C:\, Win98 on D:\, Win2K on E:\ and whistler on F:\...

I just tried to reinstall my 98 so I could get to my files...it looks fine until I try to reboot....same dam message....crap!!

What am I missing here??
Why can't I get this to work, and why does it always screw my 98??

I did restore my old boot.ini, but no good, same thing...

HELP!!!!

The NT install changed C:'s disk ID to NT, so at boot it looks for ntldr. To get it to look for io.sys, the DOS and win9x loader, just boot with a DOS floppy, and change the disk ID back to DOS with the DOS command "sys C:" (without the quotes, of course).

Ok DrDeath...this is what I did for now,

I took my W2K disc to another PC and looked for NTLDR and copied it to a floppy.

Next I booted with a boot disc to get to A:\ promt and copied NTLDR to the partition it needed.

Like this... A:\copy NTLDR C:\

My 98 booted right up...lesson learned.

You see, I figured I didn't need NTLDR, so I had deleted it.

I am still not clear on why after a bad dual boot install attempt, that I now NEED that file,
but I'm glad I can now get my files and start over if I back up my stuff.

If you need anything else, post or PM me...good luck!!
