Win 2000

I am having a networking problem that seem to be opposite from what others are having on here with 2k. Instead of having problems connecting to the 2000 machine I am having problems with the 98s and 95 on my network. I can see them in the same network with the 2000 machine. I can then select an individual machine within the workgroup. I can even see that shared folders on the 98s or the 95s. It It is when I try to connect to the specific folder that I get "\\Comptername\drive\ is not accesible. The specific network name is no longer available." and in the lower right hand corner the "Local Area Connection, Network Cable Unplugged"

There are not passwords on the folders I am trying to connect to. The other computers connects to each other's shared folder just fine and just prior to the 2000 install so did this machine. I have swapped out the PCMCIA card with another notebook running 98 and no hardware problems.

The other question I have is what is the typical Windows 2000 Professional Install size?

Typical install size including driver cache, dll cache and swap file is approximately 1GB.

did you install the client for w9x?(on the w9x machine) it's under %CD%\clients\win9x\dsclient.exe

-ctll

I have not installed %CD%\clients\win9x\dsclient.exe on the win9x machine but I have connected to win9x machines just fine or other hubs that didn't have dsclient installed on them either. I am not aware of what dsclient.exe does? I am thinking it shoud not be necessary if I can connect to win9x machines on other networks without it? I will try to track down another copy of 2000 pro though in case this is the problem.

this tells me the problem lies with one or more the the items below:

- cable(s)
- hub/switch... as a whole or individual port(s)
- NIC
