win 2000 wont re-locate my printer

I had to reinstall my win 2000 OS the other day, and after
installing the various drivers and apps I went through my
Hewlett Packard printers instructions to install my photosmart P1000.
windows identified the printer and as I was installing the
software I had a temporary brain f**t and messed the install
up. No problem Ive done this before so I uninstalled everything and got set up again and repeated the procedure
but now no matter what I do win 2000 wont automatically locate and install new hardware and HP says not to use the
install printer wizard. can someone advise me.
thanx

If you're using a USB connection, HP has an uninstall routine to download and run, so that you can reinstall from the beginning. It's on the site under drivers.
