Win 2000 User name & password.

Hello,
Thanks to "Uncle Flappy" for getting me over the firewall. Now I can ping my win 2000 computer with my Win Xp computer & vice versa. When I do a \\192.168.0.4\c to connect into my win 2000 computer thru the network, it asks me for a user name & password. I did not set any pw and or username. How should I map the win 2000 network drive onto the win xp machine

maybe try guest account. i thought if you're accessing one of the special network locations, i.e. \c$, you require an admin username/pass, you cannot just 'connect' to it. not a bad idea to create an account that you don't use that has admin access and a password, and in the map network drive area, say logon as user, and use that account. in that way you have a dormant admin account with a password as well as your primary admin account that has no password on the 2000 machine.

The short answer is setup user accounts for your remote users trying to get access to your local resources. Making sure you have resources shared and permissions setup appropriately. it's slightly more involved but I doubt anyone is going to give you a walkthrough in a forum. You'll get good advice but little things will be left out here where as they won't on the hundreds of step by step How-to's out on the net. With pictures most of them mind you.
