Win 2000 Pro

I've heard rumors that Microsoft will eventually stop updates from thier Windows update site. Does anyone know when this is going to happen?

I'm trying to hold out until the next version of the OS to be available and skip XP totally.

From the FAQ at Microsoft's site:

Q8: After Update Rollup 1 for Windows SP4 is deployed to a computer that is running Windows 2000 SP4, will the service pack level of Windows 2000 change?

A8: No. The service pack level of the computer remains as Windows 2000 SP4. After you deploy Update Rollup 1 for Windows SP4, the computer will be up to date from a life-cycle policy perspective until the end-of-life date for Windows 2000. The end-of-life date for Windows 2000 will be no sooner than January 1, 2010.

BTW, is there any file that is all inclusive w/ all service packs and critical updates that u can use on a fresh install of Win 2000, instead of using windows update, man i hate restarting the comp 20 times durring a install of 2000.

Define updates. No more service packs or new features, but security updates will be available as always until 2010.

Well Microsoft have just released a Security Rollup package for Win2000 SP4 which has security fixes upto and including April 2005.
You still need to download the June security updates, but thats not too many.

Alternately download and run the latest Autopatcher for Win2000, which only needs one reboot. (Providing you have IE6 installed already).
