I've just installed Windows 2000 on a seperate partion, all is good but for some reason I can't seem to get it to shut down correctly. It gets to the 'saving your settings...' screen and then doesn't go anywhere from there...

P3 667 | 128MB | Voodoo 3 | SB live |

Any ideas? Thanks.

check the services/programs you have running. One is probably hanging. Also make sure you have acpi enabled if your box supports it.

Do you have win98 installed also on another partition? i had the same problem when dualbooting and decided to just use ONE OS.

I'm trying to remember for sure, but I believe you have to enable the APM box for it to shut down. I haven't been in Win2k for awhile, but if memory serves me correctly, right click on desktop and go into properties. Should be in there. :)
It will shut down if you check the box.

I had problems with Zone Alarm, even with their patch. After I uninstalled it everything was fine again.

Thanks for the suggestion Compuwiz - I'm in 98SE at the moment, but I'll try that when I'm in 2K again :)

SoyBoy004 - yep, I have SE on another partition.

PG - I have Zone Alarm also...but I don't really want to get rid of it, if I can help it. What firewall did you replace it with, may I ask?

Thanks.

I run zonealarm with 2k and se on another partition, so it doesn't seem like it could be zonealarm's fault

but the other popular software firewall is blackice defender
although that costs $30-40 i think
it seems to work differently than zonealarm also; it lets you set up trusted addresses, and not trusted programs
