Win 2000 message "windows cannot end this program"

I used to know this $%@#$

When trying to reboot 2K or closing the window. I get the "windows cannot end this program" message about a old DOS program running in a window.

I do not need to save anything in this. I just want it to close.

I remember I used to know how to force a close in windows.

Since switching to Linux almost 18 months ago, I have forgotten a lot it seems.

And I have not been able to get this software to run in DosBOX or WINE ...yet.

Are you looking for....Ctrl-Alt-Delete key combo to shut down ??

No, I when I try to close the window the program is running in I want it to close without the dialog box that starts "Windows cannot end this program..."
to come up. It also comes up when I try to shutdown or reboot the computer. And the computer will not shutdown till I click the "End Now" button.

Thanks

Registry hack for automatic shutdown of crashed apps?

Go to HKEY CURRENT USER\Contol Panel\Desktop.

AutoEndTasks to 1
HungAppTimeout to 1000 or 500 or something
WaitToKillAppTimeout to 1000 or 500

They should help. 🙂

My 2k shuts down in 5seconds. I find that oddly entertaining. Shame I don't ever turn it off, but still, nice to know that my uptime stats aren't too badly affected by a reboot. Downtime of 52seconds lol.
