Win 2000 Logon style in XP

A couple days ago, I simply restarted to free up some resources, and I was surprised to see a small window displaying the "Windows is now shutting down".
During the reboot, it didn't show a login screen at all, but just the little window with a space for my name and password... My friend says it's probably a major network application I installed that's doing it.
But I can't remember anything important that I installed before it started happening...

Does anyone know if it's a setting, err...possibly a reg entry that I need to change back to get the login screen? I appreciate any help.

I can remember a similar situation on my win XP pro when the startup and log off menus turned back to win2k style after installing an old software package meant for win98. After I uninstalled it everything went back to normal. This could give u a hint....

Control Panel | User Accounts | Change the way users log on or off

Check the Use the Welcomescreen box. I also have the "Use Fast User Switching", box checked, click Apply Option and it corrects the probelem without having to re-boot.
