i have win 2000 with sp4. i have a 6600gt card, with one digital monitor and one analog monitor on an adaptor plug. windows does not see 2 monitors. start/control panel/display/settings does not show the usual 2 monitor display. also both monitors are functioning, but just like one showing the same screen. (sort of like a vga splitter) any ideas what's wrong?

Try scanning for new hardware. My Radeon 9700 Pro is detected as two different cards (primary and secondary) and perhaps yours is, too.

There should be an option in the nvidia driver to enable clone or spanning modes. With two monitors connected, windows should enable spanning by default IIRC. You should be able to find it under one of the 6600 display tabs. I'm not on a dual monitor system right now so I can't provide the exact menu.

Two step process...

First, go under your display properties (right-click on a blank are of your desktop, chose properties), click on the settings tab, click on the advanced tab, go to the NVIDIA tab (assuming you have a NVIDIA card), look under desktop utilities and make sure "Enable Dualview" is enabled (checkmarked).

If it isn't checkmarked, checkmark it. You will have to reboot. With that done, go back to your display properties (right-click on a blank area of the desktop), go to the settings tab, make sure that the "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor is checkmarked". This setting will extend your desktop over to the other monitor (as opposed to cloning it).

Should get it!
