For about a week I worked all the angles to get my Lenovo T510 upgraded from 7 to 10. Every attempt resulted in a "Cannot install on this PC, CPU is incompatible." CPU is i5 540M. Really?
I worked with Lenovo and tried every BIOS setting, etc. they could think of. All with same result. I was able to get the Win 10 Pro ISO file via Microsoft Download Tool on my desktop, and it nice burned a Win 10 Pro DVD.
So, I tried that on the T510. As soon as I let it check for updates, the STOP message killed it.
I did a lot of research on the auto/download install program for Win 10 and learned that it had a bug in that area.
I then tried this and it worked! I disconnected the T510 from the Internet. I ran the DVD setup via an optical drive. When it got to that question about checking for updates, I said "No!"
Wow! That solved the problem. The installation from the DVD was perfect and an hour later, I was running Win 10 on the T510.
So, if you have the ISO on any media, and you have install problems, try it with Internet disconnected. That way the MS bug cannot function.
