I think this has been beaten to death in tech news. Ars had an article. I would've posted a link to AT, but I don't see an article from them. Basically, Windows 10 is a recommended update now for Win. 7. and 8.1 users. If you use the default Windows Update settings, it will automatically download the update. It's a terrible and reeks of desperation. At the same time, it's a free upgrade (for now), and I definitely prefer Windows 10 over 8.1 (but I still love Win. 7). This would definitely piss me off if I had bandwidth caps and if it wasn't free.

Well last time I was on 8.1 WU automatically tried to update me to 10 and ended up botching the process.

Well my download (Update) function on my laptop is totally corrupt/missing so I don't have to worry about unwanted upgrades for now...and I never used automatic updates.
Still happy with Win 7.

I think eventually they'll just do this, they seem to be super aggressive about wanting everyone on it. When they see that not everyone has upgraded they'll probably just push it as an auto update. It's going to be a disaster, not looking forward to all the "help my computer got upgraded and I don't like it" phone calls.

Not only a matter of not liking it, but the support hell from various issues that have already taken place such as sluggishness, printers ceasing function, mapped drives breaking, third party apps breaking, video driver madness, account lockouts. It's been fun.

I'm just rolling with it still and even using the insider builds updating on the main rig.

Have Windows 10 build 14257 atm, but have to admit it can still be a bit frustrating now and then to get things to play nice together sometimes. Everything is back to normal here atm, but have ran into a curve ball now and then.

I'm pretty sure it probably is dld on many peoples rigs whether they have installed it or not, it is a background thing they have been pushing awhile now.

I decided to join the MS Borg early on and learn to use it, resistance is futile :p
