I was looking at the assortment of laptops at costco over the weekend and noticed nearly all the new win 10 laptops are "touch screen". I thought touchscreen died with win 8?? Why are the mfgrs all insisting on touchscreen?? Is it really that popular?? I don't like it. I want to keep the screen clean.

You dont have to touch the screen if you don't want to, nobody is forcing you. Let there be the option to use it for the people who want to use it.

Just wait until the touch-screen wears out, or gets a spec of dirt on it, and you get "phantom presses".

Edit: Get a "business laptop". Shouldn't have any of those touch-screen shenanigans.

Nope. Windows 7 marketshare is still over 50% with Windows XP in second I think. I am the camp that has been avoiding buying a new laptop since 2012 because of the negative consequences and annoyances of these tablet gimmicks that have no place in a serious laptop, cutting corners on trackpad quality/buttons...

There are still A LOT of non-touchscreen laptops, personally when it comes to laptops I prefer it that way. But the 2-in-1 are gaining ground very rapidly so the non-touchscreen laptops may get phased out in a matter of few years.

And no kidding on cutting corners on quality, quality of laptops has been going down and down and down.

Do you have any evidence that the touch screen is any more likely to fail than a standard screen?

And the spec of dirt comment is just silly.

It all comes down to personal preference so get the one that suites you best. I like both and if I were buying a new laptop today I would get a touch screen.

Not entirely. Personally, I don't care if laptops have a touch screen. If I wanted a touch screen, I'd get a tablet. However, unless the touchscreen is an otherwise inferior product, I see no reason to make laptops with a touchscreen.

Only offering one screen lowers costs so as long as it's a decent screen, I don't care if it's touchscreen. I haven't seen any evidence that the touchscreens are inferior screens, so why not put them on all of them.
