If there are problems with your file system, they may follow you to 7 if you don't fix them.

Why is typing sfc from a command prompt so hard?

I am dumb sir. I have used Windows XP for two years, Windows 7 for almost seven years, I have never seen this problem. Suddenly within a month with Windows 10 I am seeing new things which I have never seen before.

I don't know what's sfc by the way.

I Google searched and understood, but I can't run it. It says you have to be an administrator and so on. I am an administrator by the way. Hilarious!

Type cmd into Cortana. On the Command Prompt that comes up, right-click it and select 'run as administrator.'

type 'sfc /scannow' without the quotes

If it says that it wants to reboot your computer, let it do so.

I don't see any Cortana! I don't use US English or whatever language it requires.

Windows System in the start menu then. Right click command prompt and run as administrator. Cortana comes with Windows 10 by default, so I assumed.

Here, some errors are there! But how do I fix it?

I was afraid of that. Honestly, your best bet is to delete the partition and re-install Windows.

Okay, its a Sunday, so I will do that as I have nothing to do. But kindly tell me the exact procedure. I mean should I delete that partition only, i.e the C partition or are there other partitions which needed to be deleted as well?

Here is an image of my drive partitions, notice that only C and I are WD Black. The other drives are Seagate 500 GB, which is dying anyway, and I don't give a damn about that. The problem is the I partition has most of my stuffs, and I can't delete that, there are just way too many things, and even my externals don't have that much free space.

PS: By the way, when you say Delete the partition, how do I do that exactly? By using the Windows 10's installation menu right?

Unplug all hard drives and ssd's except for the one that windows resides on. Boot the pc using the dvd and then follow the instructions. When it asks you what partition to install on select anything showing on the screen and DELETE it. Then click on new and let windows do the rest.

SFC is only scanning C, so the others should be fine.

Unplug other drives. During the install, choose a customer install. Then, hilight the C drive, and select Dete, leaving the others in tact. At this point, just click Next, and Windows will automatically create the necessary partition(s).

Edit: Puffnstuff got it.

Okay, thanks. I install from a flashable drive, a Sandisk Extreme to be specific, is that not recommended? I am so lazy to install any burning software, so didn't write the OS to DVD!

The flash drive is fine and the same principle applies as with any installation medium. If you have a uefi bios be sure to enter it and select uefi thumb drive before installing it otherwise set it to boot from the flash drive.

Try running this command in an elevated prompt before you resort to another full re-install. Once it has completed reboot and run the sfc /scannow command. It may or may not help but it won't take long to complete so you won't be out much.

Code:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

EDIT:I should have added a link for you to check out the DISM command and what it does. Sorry about that. You can get a more detailed tutorial here. http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/7808-dism-repair-windows-10-image.html

If a Windows image becomes unserviceable, you can use the Deployment Imaging and Servicing Management (DISM) tool to update the files and correct the problem.

For example, you would use DISM to fix Windows component store corruption when a sfc /scannow command is unable to repair corrupted or modified system files because the component store (source) is corrupted. SFC should be able to repair the files afterwards.

So here I am after cleanly installing Windows again, and guess what, same, exact same error message is shown in CMD! This is ridiculous!

Yes, I did delete the C partition before installing. Yes, I did detach my other Seagate hard drive before installing, in fact its still detached. Only WD drive was connected when I installed the OS!

sometimes you not only need to delete the partition, but you need to launch the dos command prompt while at the partition screen in the Windows Setup then hit SHIFT +
F10

now type:

diskpart
list disk (to know the number of your current disk where you are installing Windows, let's assume it's DISK 0 for now)
select disk 0
clean

now go back to the partition screen and hit the refresh blue icon, now your disk is clean, now create a partition, Windows will the initialize the disk as GPT if you booted the installation medium in UEFI mode or it will initialize it as MBR if you booted the installation media in standard/legacy mode

now install Windows

If you get issues again, then it's probably a hardware failure

If you are overclocking, I suggest you disable your overclock for now.

I thought you ran a disc utility to check the drive prior to all of this?
I don't understand what this means!

PS: I'm writing a DVD now, going to install the OS from that now, along with what berryracer said, if the problem stays even after that, frak it.

Yeah, couldn't you find a better word? That's too modest!

Wasting a fine Sunday morning by doing nonsense, behind nonsense, I am thick-headed, ironic!

How did the chkdsk command go that I recommended in post 4? Did it turn up any errors on your drive?

No, I didn't do that! I can't do everything at a time.

Anyway, great news. I was running that thing berryracer said, cleaned partition 1 and partition 2, but for some reasons partition 3 also got cleaned. Partition 3 was the one where I had 850 gigs of data, very very important ones rather.

The morning is getting better.
