Win 10 forgets window size & position

I'm running Windows 10 on the Dell UP2715K 5K screen, which worked really well before the Creators Update. But since then it's got an annoying habit of forgetting the window size and position every time I turn the monitor off. It defaults to extremely tiny windows.

I wondered if anyone else had this issue? Perhaps it affects all monitors? Ideally hopefully I'm missing something small and silly that would fix it :p

Cheers!

There are two effects ? The window position and size ?
Are icons affected ?
Can you discount the monitor itself ? Oldie ?
On size, you are manually stretching the windows to a size ?
I have an issue as well since the Update. You might see fit to report this to the MS web site .

What video card? Get the latest video card drivers and see if the problem continues.

Thanks for the replies. I've attached a sequence of screenshots here also.

Top is the window open before I minimize it.
Middle is using Peek, it appears to remember the size and position
Bottom is when I actually click it, and it becomes tiny and goes up the top left

I just used Chrome as an example, but other windows are affected too.

Both size and position? That's correct yes. For example if I have a Window on the right side of the screen, then minimize it, turn off the monitor and turn it back on... when I open the window open again it'll be tiny and on the top left side of the screen.

Icons aren't affected though. I wish I had another monitor to test it on though, but unfortunately just this one.

I've got a GTX 1080 Founders Edition, with the latest drivers (just checked now) and the most recent driver update was a fresh install (reset graphic card settings to default) just in case that helped.

Thanks, I'd like to submit it to Microsoft, that's a good idea. I'll use the Feedback Hub.

Update:

If a Window is snapped then minimized, it'll move and shrink a little when the screen comes back on, but not much. If it's not snapped to either side of the screen, and minimized, when the screen comes back on it'll be tiny (as per the screenshot in my post above).

Likewise any windows on screen when I turn off the monitor, will be moved and shrunk when turning the monitor back on.

Here is a 2011 thread discussing various remedies for the problem. I did not read it all but few solutions were found. One had success in safe mode or disabling the video driver, one changed the monitor cable from one standard to another, e.g, Display Port to HDMI, etc. Another is to not turn off the monitor while the system is on. One user downgraded the monitor to a crt and the problem disappeared. Let us know if something works.

I'm seeing the very same issue with select programs and its very annoying. My vitalsource ebooks are not retaining their last position or size when I open them forcing me to resize and reposition them to where I want them each time I use them. This happened to me before the creators update though and after several uses it seemed to stop.

Thanks, I'll have a check through those :)

I'd love to try another monitor to see if that fixes it. This monitor uses two display ports together, which I imagine increases the chances of unusual behavior.

Puffnstuff, agreed on it being very annoying! Interesting that it happened before the creators update and stopped happening after several uses though. And it hasn't started again since the update?

I just did a clean install last week so it started again with Vitalsource books but the main program is keeping its size and position. Everything else is keeping its size and position so I'm wondering what it is about this program that is so different for w10?
