I'm not sure if I should just start a new thread or continue with this one but I'm having an issue with Win 10 Activation. I used the media creation tool to create a bootable usb, and used rufus for the uefi part. Set boot priority to boot off the usb and installed windows. Everything works, except windows is showing that I have home instead of pro installed and activated. The laptop came with pro. The media creation tool did not give me an option which version to install, and the installation defaulted to home. Prior to installing windows, I looked in bios for the key, but didn't find it, and I read that MS keeps keys on their servers, so that when you do a clean install, windows will activate the version you have automatically. This does not seem to be the case. How do I get pro installed? I tried a method upgrading to pro with a public key, and the key didn't work.

Moved from the thread it was in to this subforum.

Every time I used the media creation tool the installer asked what version I was installing (not at download). Use the media creation tool to make the bootable media, not rufus, and see how it goes.

Thanks I'll give it a shot w/o rufus. The only options I can remember it giving me though was Windows and Windows N. There was another option but I can't remember right now.

Tried installing w/o rufus and same thing happened. Win 10 home installed and activated. I got online and talked to MS support and they got win 10 pro activated on their end. Mods can close the thread. Thanks for the reply!
