Update: RIM wrote in to share the following statement:

RIM has decided to prioritize and focus its 4G development resources on LTE. We remain excited and committed to delivering innovative and powerful 4G tablets to the US market together with our carrier partners. Testing of BlackBerry 4G PlayBook models is already underway and we plan to enter labs for network certifications in the US and other international markets this fall.

They claim they are focusing on LTE Playbooks, but I'm pretty sure the dismal sales of the WiFi Playbooks probably factored into Sprint's decision to turn them down too.

I seem to recall this announcement being quite awhile ago...can't find an article...maybe I was just reading the future.

Oyeve, considering Sprint still sells the Wifi version, they're still plenty "saddled".

:)

Makes no sense to build a WiMax device, Sprint will be switching & isn't concerned with tethering right now, seems like a smart move to just keep the WiFi version, and not bother with WiMax.
