I thought that board had no overclocking features... why would you use a $50 heatsink when a $10 one could do the same job?

Or am I mistaken?

Just curious, because I was ignoring the Gigabyte board, but if you can o/c with it..

actually looking at it for my parents. I have the 8045 and it's awesome. really I wanted something quiet that's why I'm thinkg about the 80mm size

I was wrong about the board not having O/Cability, it supports FSBs of up to 161MHz.

My bad.

If you're not oc'ing, and want a quiet heatsink/fan combo, i'd recommend a Volcano 7 with a 80mm fan. it's supposed to perform well for the price/noice level. Also, it's much cheaper than the Alpha which would be overkill for a non oc'ing system :D If not, you can also look at a SK-6 with a 80mm Fan, also quiet, cheaper and performs well.
