Will you see any sort of issues...

Assuming:
I have Windows XP installed on the C: drive;
It's a 40 gig drive, and I've got about 7 gigs free;

Will I see performance issues -- or any other sort of issues for that matter?

In general, the more data on a drive, the more time it takes for the heads to reach a random file. Also, if you have little space left, it will take time for the heads to move to the free space.

Not at that point. When you get to 4GB, start worrying.

u sure? both laptops in this household have less than a gig left on their hard drives (i believe) and nothing wrong...just runs a bit slower is all i think

Just make sure you give that sucker a good defrag, so you heads aren't seeking all over the place trying to read and write data.

if i gets really low, you're increasing the chance of data corruption and crashes. not to mention the fact you will have poorer performance from having hundreds of Megs or a couple gigs left

Data corruption? Um, no.

Most programs will have problems if you get so low on disk space that you start running out of virtual memory. If you have under 1GB free on disk, and under 1GB of RAM, you could easily exhaust your system's VM. Anything trying to write files to disk will also have issues (obviously) if the drive gets completely full.

Only if the drive is badly fragmented.

ok, perhaps i've been mislead.
reading your posts in the past, you seem to know what you're talking about.
I think we can agree running with very low resources on C is generally not a good idea.
