Will you get the new ipad?

No. I have no use for such a device but I'll keep an eye out for future revisions. My macbook pro is plenty for my needs.

It seemed quite useless for my needs.

A friend and I were having discussion about the iPad. What need does it actually fulfill? Netbook? Doesn't have an edge on any current netbooks. E-Reader? Costs more than other e-readers out there, and doesn't have a clear advantage over current models.

It's a solution in search of a problem.

If they come out with iTunes in the cloud and allow you to sync an iPhone/iPod with the tablet, I could easily replace my laptop with one..

Everything else I do is in the cloud already, the only thing tying me to a laptop or desktop is my iTunes library.

Found this pic, made me laugh. 😛

Gonna say not sure. I have two specific programming projects for it, so if I begin those, I will buy one. But I'll probably end up waiting for Rev.2. Maybe.

Yes (and the one that comes out after it too, heh) to go along with my iPhone, and soon to be newer MBP. Though I'm definitely a part of the Apple ecosystem. I have an Airport Express that I control wirelessly for music, and I have MobileMe for flawless video streaming out of iDisk...

Of course, all of this works nicely in concert with my Vista Ultimate desktop, 7 Ultimate Media Center, two 360s, DMA2100, and unRAID file server. The iPad is just another gadget I want 🙂

LOL, I commented yesterday that it was a Touch for old people, then just read a couple of articles that suggest the very same thing.

But you-all tell me...

I work for an employer with a draconian internet use policy, matter of fact 2 people got canned for using Facebook on a work PC last week.

I have a smartphone, but I have always hated postage stamp sized screens

I actively trade stocks

I caught myself clicking on a 3mm hyperlink today on my phone, it was a PITA.

I tether using my smart phone

I hate my netbook, I hate all netbooks.

I can pick up a MaxiPad for $499, tether it to the smartphone in my pocket and I'm golden...

I agree with ya here, but sadly I'd think we'd have to rely on the jailbreaking community for some tethering love. I could be wrong but if the iPad could tether out of the box, why sell the 3G version?

Anyway, I could use a device similar to the iPad for most of the reasons you listed above. What I *don't* like about the iPad is how locked down it is. If I'm going to be surfing the web, I want *all* of the web, which includes Flash (which isn't going anywhere for a few more years yet). Also, not having to carry around dongles would be nice as well, but that's Apple for ya. And don't get me started on iTunes. 😡

Hopefully, we'll see more manufacturers jump on board with this new iFad just like they do everything else.

I'd rather spend my money on a netbook... but I won't since my laptop is good (albeit a bit heavy in comparison).

The wifi tether mod on my phone turns it into a wifi router that anything with wifi can connect to.

Glad to see the apple forum isn't just a bunch of fanboys. I'm glad you see this ipad for what it is. Useless. It was best described by a previous poster " a big iPod touch."
