I talked myself out of getting in on that Dell deal. I won't next time around.

What is a flat panel CRT? Flat panels are LCDs. CRT's are huge so they can't be flat. Do you mean flat screen CRTs? Or is there new technology to make the lasers in the flyback shoot in a much wider angle?

There is supposed to be a flat panel CRT technology that has been talked about for a number of years, last I heard IBM was supposed to have been ready to license their version of this technology sometime last year. I don't remember all of the details but I have been reading articles about it here and there for at least four years, and they are definitely talking flat panel not flat screen.

CRT's until LCD's give better gaming performance at a better price.

You do understand that LCD's size is it's exact size and CRT monitors lose some from the edge of the glass that can't display anything right?

17" LCD = 19" CRT
18" LCD = 20-21" CRT
19" LCD = 21-22" CRT
not quite. more like 18" LCD = 19" CRT.

If you have really good vision I'd hold out for the 2000FP with 1600x1200 resolution.

Otherwise if you're like and 1280x1024 is PERFECT then definitely get the 1900FP.

And that's the reason I wouldn't touch an LCD with a 10 foot clown pole (at least for my home/gaming rig)

For work, it's so much nicer for long-term computing sessions :)

Nothing beats a CRT for gaming and DVD playback picture quality.LCD's are sweet for text quality and for working well in envirnments with limited desktop space but they still have a ways to go to beat out CRT's.

LCD's are comming, but aren't there yet. Once 17"(or 19") LCD's with a pixel response time <=16ms(60 refreshes a second) are pervasive, I'll take a look. Until then, I'll consider them fine for desktop use, but not for video games.

after using my lcd for maybe 5 months, i don't think i'll ever go back to a CRT. the picture is much sharper with DVI and i get so much more desk space. i don't notice any ghosting on my planar 19.

only beef is the 'native resolution' issue.

The only complaint I have with CRT's is the size, and that not is big issue for me at this point, so CRT it is.

Agreed.

However I will never buy another CRT that isn't a flatscreen.

Exactly what I would have posted; after owning a flatglass TV, I upgraded my computer monitor and will never go back to a non-flat screen.

becuase you couldn't fit anything on your desk and you'd suffer from heat stroke and wallet emptying electricity bills.

I don't plan on giving up my superior to LCD DiamondTron any time soon... whats teh point? LCD is more expensive and picture is not as good. the only real reason is heat/size.

not worth it.
