Way too expensive for me now, plus I just don't need it for what I do right. Maybe in a year or two when the prices come down and the games/software call for it.

Hell yeah, I want one to increase my computer's performance. :)
Do 3 different video encodes, play WoW and CS : Source at the same time and tell me I don't need a dual-core chip. :p

Exactly.

I can certainly see the benefit of dual-core; i will be buying one for sure, just not till the prices come down a bit.

No, I already have two PCs - and these are upgradeable and do much more than play games.

it will probably be two upgrades in the future after the drop in price. next upgrade shooting for an a64 4000+ or greater in ~6-9 months.

not immediately but later on when the prices drop (hope they do very soon)

but for now I would get Pentium D (but again its Intel--got be cautious about the power consumption and heat)

This is crazy, I alway though that

AMD = low price good performance

Intel = pricey not good performance

But now its flipped, man its crazy:(

When you have the fastest hardware, you can do those things..

I kinda want Intel to grab the crown back for a bit, keep everyone honest.

Agreed, I don't NEED one right now but Dual core will be nice. I doubt I will be upgrading till atleast the end of the year so we'll see what happens.

I am getting the 4400+ and putting into my happily purring watercooled system in two months. I already have the budget :) Besides one of my three computers decided to take a dirt nap recently

Edit: assuming the 4400+ is 580 bucks like the AMD listed of course! Otherwise it will be a Venice 3700 or 4000

I know the price is a little high but I am hoping my watercooling will yield me 2600 (if I get more I shall thank Silica the Great Goddess of Computers) with the dual 2200 1024L2 $580 chip. If I get to 2600 then I will have essentially a new revision FX-55 (times 1.5 to 2 for multitasking)

yes, when they are reasonable in price, no matter what the performance i will get, i bet i have to pay a hefty premium when it's initially released

well it really seems my next rig will be and intel

the dual core amds are way to expensive.

and my computer usage is now becoming much more multi-tasked than jus playing a few games.

lastnight i was surfing the web in FF with 8 tabs open, i had itunes on browsing through the itunes store, i had 3 MSN windows open, 1 with a web cam on (both ways video convo style) i was messing on hotsyncing and sorting my PDA....and i was watching Blade on DVD

not only did i realise that a) my screen isnt big enough, but b) A64 is horrible at multi tasking. any time i loaded a web page up, movie stuttered, any time people signed in to msn it stutters, same with itunes. and when them little weather pop ups from forecast fox appear...it stutters.

i think an intel dual core is on the cards.
