I voted "havent seen enough benchmarks."

Did you guys see the Extreme Tech article saying that Windows Vista will not support hardware sound acceleration?

I am not paying $200 for a sound card.

I bought a Live! a long time ago, complete piece of junk. That was my first and last Creative card.

$200 including a free $80MSRP Creative headset is about $180 for the card. I don't mean to insult your intelligence, but are you sure it was the Fatal1ty version? Your later post seems to indicate you have some confusion about the different versions.

That's the Xtrememusic. I believe the Fatal1ty is considerably more expensive.

wha??? 270 for a sound card
Well, sure. You need an expensive sound card for games! After all, what else is going to render the picture? ... oh, wait ...

Is that really the codename? "Fatal1ty"? I thought I remembered a motherboard that had the same name, either an Abit or Asus...

Some extreme gamer who earns money putting his name on specific hardware.

Hmm, well that "extreme gamer" seems to have put his name on a Prescott motherboard, which I find kind of amusing. (I use a Prescott, but it's a general purpose proc, not a gaming specialized one like some AMDs.)

Replace Audigy 2 ZS with Soundstorm and you have my opinion.

After THG's review, I think id go for that X-Mystique card. 1 wire for 5.1 sound is bliss.

I am currently using the HDA Mystique, and it f'ing rocks.

have a toslink running to my amp, then to my 5.1 set up. The Mystique completely tromps my old Audigy 2. No contest.

Well, i picked up a X-fi platinum from bestbuy (didn't know it was supposed to be out yet), and it rules. (Platinum is the same as Fatality except no x-ram, which x-ram doesn't do any good unless the game is specifically designed to use it). Music (with the crystallizer) is much brighter, crisper, and generally cleaner sounding. Haven't tried the headphone surround thing, but will in a few days. All in all, mucho better than my 2 ZS.

I might pick up the cheaper version from Best Buy (platnium) to try it out and then perhaps exchange it later for the Fata1ty if it turns out to be worthwhile
