Will you buy a 3DS when it comes out?

Are you going to get the 3DS?

  • Yes: I can't wait! I'm definitely going to get it on release!

  • Yes: I'll get it once the initial rush is over/the price drops.

  • Maybe: I'm not entirely sure about it, I'll decide once it is out.

  • No: Are you kidding me? I just bought the DSi/XL! Might as well wait for the next version . . ..

  • No: PSP 4-eva/I don't really play handheld games.

  • What is this?

In my opinion the announcement of the 3DS is the most exciting thing in E3 so far.
I'm normally not interested in 3D gimmicks in theatres or on TV, but for some reason I think this is a really neat implementation and I can't wait to try it out, nevermind the 3rd party developers making games for it.

Of course, I understand if a lot of people are not, since the release of the DSi/XL was so recent and I'm sure a few of us bought it (I didn't).

Of course the pricing and release date is TBD, but I'm assuming it'll come out sometime during the holiday season - and pricing should be comparable to the DS or DSi when it came out (<$200).

Who else is excited about this and want to get it??

I'm definitely considering it. I mean, Gamecube graphics in 3D, the ability to take 3D photos, you can watch 3D movies one, and it's backwards compatible with the DSi. Definitely not bad. I'd have to see how well it works in person though before making a final decision. Prices is also a big factor. I won't buy a portable if it's a dime over $200.

It's got the PSP beat.

yea i was wondering why a yes or no question had 6 options in the poll.

no here.

not no with any of the stupid reasons you have above ... just no.

I'm hoping I can trade in the 2 DS Phats, 2 DS Lites and DSi I've bought for my kids over the years towards one.

But yes, immediately upon availability.

I don't play handheld games like I used to. Traded in my DS Lite and for $70 for it and don't plan on getting any more handheld.

Not a fan of carrying multiple devices. I liked the iPhone for the reason that it was more or less an all-in-one type device. I had a DS Lite and ended up selling it due to neglect/dust collection.

I've never gotten around to buying a DS, so I might if the price is under $200 and it's fully compatible with DS games.

I felt the DS was lacking up until the DSi. Original DS was far too clunky, DS Lite was enticing but still not quite there. The expandable memory support through SDHC cards on the DSi might have been enough but I didn't jump on the DSi because it was still just the DS which was getting really long in the tooth by then.

The 3DS promises all that but with much better graphics PLUS the 3D screen. Combine that with news of Zelda: OoT and StarFox 64 remakes and I'm pretty much sold already...if the price is right.

I'm still skeptical of the 3D screen though and would like to see it for myself before buying though. Unfortunately I have a feeling these things are going to sell crazier than the Wii did at launch so it may be a while if I don't preorder...

Edit: a lot also depends on the trimmings:

Nintendo has almost always had a stance where they put gaming first and foremost and almost completely ignore other multimedia options (such as DVD playback for the Game Cube/Wii), however the 3DS has a chance of being a pretty killer multimedia device beyond just gaming. If Nintendo doesn't provide such features for it I at least hope they don't restrict it, at least not too much.

I'm excited for Golden Sun, DQIX, MGS, Batman, Kid Icarus, Paper mario, Resident Evil, Etrian Odyssey, Shin Megami Tensei, Bomberman, Zelda (both Ocarina of Time and new titles), and Starfox 64, so yes.

EDIT: This is of course assuming a reasonable price for the system.

The biggest problem with the DS at least in my opinion, was the software. The games didn't seem as strong as they could have been compared to past Gameboy models. I only ever bought Pokemon for it. The games for the most part were far too casual and to kid oriented. I know Nintendo likes to target a younger crowd but please don't forget about us older fans. That's why we all flocked to the PSP.

The 3DS seems to have a solid launch line up though. I'm liking it so far. I just want to see how well the 3D works on it.

Definitely, if the available games are worthwhile. Haven't played Ocarina... might be a perfect excuse to play that one through finally!

i might...just for this game
