I normally do not go to church anymore but they cannot drive so i offered to take them. It makes me sad to be in church beacause of the crap the preist spews... always asking for more money or talking about we should fear God... It truly annoys me and that is why i stopped going to church.
When i go there, i want to feel uplifted, happy and loved, not scared because my spiteful God wants to reign terror upon his own children.

Maybe you should try looking around at other churches. I'm sure thats not the only one in your area. You shouldn't turn your back on God just because you don't like how one preacher gives his message.

EDIT: Oh... and since I'm in the choir that would be yes and yes.

I have thought about trying new churches/religions. I hate to say i am bashing the Catholic faith because i am really not. I still pray very often, saying the rosary, the Our Father, etc. I still believe in a lot of what most Catholics believe, however there are certain things that bug me that i do not agree with The Church upon. I stopped going to confession because i wondered why do i need a priest to listen to my sins when i can "speak to God" directly and ask for his forgiveness on my own?

Even though the movie Dogma was just that... a movie, it had some great points to it... when The Muse says something along the lines of "most people mourn their religion instead of celebrating them." and that is very true to me.

I was raised Baptist myself. I've never gone to confession or said the rosary. I view Catholicism as simply a different way to worshiping the same God. I also went to Temple once with a friend who was Jewish. Was a very interesting experience. Yes we do have several hellfire & brimstone preachers. And messages like that have their place, but its not what I want to hear every Sunday.

I've always wondered why Catholics pray to Mary and make statues of her when the 10 commandments say you're not supposed to idolize anyone else which includes making holy statues. Jesus doesn't count since he's pretty much considered part of God (i.e. father, son, holy spirit type of thing). My mother was raised a Catholic and her family is still Catholic, but she "broke away" long ago because of the many conflicting beliefs (that conflict with passages in the bible). I've personally disliked the idea that good works are required. From how I've read everything, they're most certainly not a requirement, but in living your life in that certain god-following manner, good works will naturally become part of your life but going out of your way to do them as atonement is so so wrong.

Why do Christians go to Church on Sunday? The bible clearly states that you must keep the sabbath holy. (That's Saturday for the uninformed)

The list goes on and on BTW, not just going to church on the wrong day. Profanity anyone?

'cause Constantine said so :p.

Oh and here's a nice little excerpt for you:

The Sabbath was given to Israel, not the church. The Sabbath is still Saturday, not Sunday, and has never been changed. But the Sabbath is part of the Old Testament Law, and Christians are free from the bondage of the Law (Galatians 4:1-26; Romans 6:14). Sabbath keeping is not required of the Christian?be it Saturday or Sunday.

Therefore it doesn't matter what day you celebrate. There are passages in the bible that say you should have fellowship with your fellow believer, which church ceremony can account for regardless of what day it's on.

Sorry, I get very confused by your bible. One part says one thing, another part says the opposite. You had quoted the old testament when saying catholics were violating the bible, so I assumed you followed the old testament.

BTW, how does Constantine change what day you go to church?

Will there be a side of spaghetti?

Nope...just meat. There's nothing better than going out to a restaurant on Good Friday and eating a big steak in front of a bunch of Catholics. ;)

lol... nice edit. I was about to ask if you got the day off work, and if so, if that somehow added to your misery anyway.
Ah nobody cares what we think, besides who are we to say what is good or not. If people enjoy it more power to them.

Actually, one part of the New Testament simply removed some of the Old Testament rules, as Christians were no longer bound to them.

And Constantine declared it so it was done... I don't see anything difficult in understand that.

This sounds more like a "you say potaytoh, I say potahtoh" type of rebuttal. To me, making statues and praying to her when you know... you're kinda supposed to pray to God isn't right. I have no qualms with respecting the mother of Jesus, but I respect police officers... I respect other people on the road. I don't pray to them, I don't make earthly images of them.

Well, if you really didn't know, Catholic's don't pray to Mary as in worship, but we ask her to pray for us. Do you ever ask a friend to say a prayer for a sick family member? Why, you shouldn't pray to them, you should pray to God directly. Why waste the time asking people for prayers when you could better spend that time saying the prayers yourself? It's the Catholic view that who can better say a prayer for you than the very mother of God.

I think that is the first time I have actually seen an "elite" member post something worthy of the title. The sentiment in that post is what is lacking on this forum, and in the world, the most at the moment IMHO. Just let people enjoy their beliefs and don't trash them for it.

Yes.

Yes.

I didn't read the whole thread, just the 1st page.

As for money, there is nothing wrong with a church mentioning money. How do you think bills get paid?

We are commanded by God to tithe 10% off of the top (pre-tax, before anything else is paid). If you don't think you can afford it, you should re-evaluate where your money is going. Your daily $2 cup of Starbucks is a good place to start!

$2 Starbucks coffee?? Now that's blasphemy. I don't think I have ever seen anything under $3 there.

Why did you even bother editing your previous post when you would just resort to trolling again 20 minutes later?
