I went with a 2500, but I'm already considering canceling it and getting a 2600 (or 2600K). I just hate the thought of purchasing something, and maybe a month down the road, I realize that I really should have spent the extra money and purchased the better product.
I doubt it'll be an issue... I mean hell, I'm upgrading from an i7-860. Although, this upgrade is more about replacing the terrible ASUS motherboard I have more than anything. For some reason, I've always had better luck with cheaper computer components... it's a strange thing
.
I have a feeling a majority of 2600K adopters will be from ignorance, e-peen, or they simply couldn't get their hands on a 2500K![]()
Or some of use haven't upgraded in years and didn't want to upgrade to an inferior CPU. $100 is peanuts over the course of a couple of years. Heck, it's peanuts over the course of 1 year. I swear some people are making it seem like $1000.
Explain.

Depends on what you're doing and using that chip for. As a gamer the i5 is the superior chip and allows me to put that money saved into my SSD purchase.
It's not supperior in an way. It is simply cheaper.
I am leaning 2600k just for this reason. My current pc is 6 yrs old Pentium D. Do I need it? Prob not. Do I need 2500k? Do you? Prob not. Anyway its 90 bucks so whichever way I go, I'm not gonna sit there beating myself up 2 yrs from now "damn I shouldnt have spent 90 bucks cause I'm not sure Im getting enough hyperthreading use"
Where are all these comments for the buyers of 980x. Now THAT is E-peen territory - money wasted for most users.
2600K vs 2500K.
Unless you know you'll definitely make use of it, you're paying an extra $90 for extra piece of mind.
