Will XP Power Down?

I have just installed XP Pro, and am finding a few things that are minuses to me (lots of plusses, however.)

One niggling thing is the failure of XP to shut down the system on closing . . . I mean turn the power off in a ATX machine. 98, 98SE, and ME all did this nicely, and I have gotten out of the habit of having to turn off the power source.

Anyone have a different experience? If sop, what setting am I missing?

I have downloaded and installed the Microsoft shutdown patch for XP, but that doesn't help this particular "feature."

Doh!

Is ACPI enabled in bios and xp detected your system as ACPI-compliant? (check device setting) Or, did you turn on APM in power management in control panel?

Check the BIOS and see if there's an option to enable the shutdown. Worked on a few of my corp workstations.
