I have a PS2 but we won't have BB until September...ahah well really its gonna be much later but we can pretend, right?

So will either Xbox or GC have broadband right off the bat and any games to support this? I would like to buy one of them but whichever doesn't have BB will be the one I don't wanna look at.

Oh also I have Comcast @ home - will the consoles just go in right through that just as a regular PC does or would I have to pay for something else?

No. The networks for them probably won't launch until 2002.

So I'd have to pay an extra $30 (we'll say) a month on top of my regular comptuer's broadband? Man, thats ass.

xbox will have ethernet built right in, it plugs right into your switch/hub and will pull an ip from your routers dhcp. xbox is ready to go.

yeah, xbox has it built in out of the box. gamecube will be an add-on. you wont technically be able to "get online" until march 2002 with either console. both will have their gaming services up then (like seganet).

no one knows about charges right now as far as the gaming is concerned (although phantasy star online 2.0 for the gamecube i think is 15$ for 3 months (like a massive mmorpg)).

gamecube will also have a 56k modem and the xbox will not.

Is it certain that Xbox will indeed ship with a standard RJ-45 connector onboard? I've heard rumors that there's something proprietary requiring a 'broadband kit'.

nope, standard rj-45, just plug it in to your hub and go!

they're not puting on a modem cause they figure most of the people who will buy an xbox will already have highspeed access.

Xbox has a standard RJ-45 Ethernet port built in. Gamecube will give users the choice of a 56K or Broadband (RJ-45) adapter at cheap cost's. The bad thing is though, there wont be any online gaming on either console until March 2002 for Gamecube, and sometime after March 2002 for Xbox.
PS2, surprisingly, is going to be the first console online. The Ethernet adapter is shipping for PS2 this fall at a cost of $39.99. There are two games in the works that I know of which will be online, and they are Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 and Twisted Metal Black Online.

yea the ps2 will have online play this fall and i think there is another game coming out for it, I think its a military game that lets you communicate with headsets! And Twisted Metal will be and addon disk, so the people who bought the original wont have to buy another one!

it's rumored that nintendo is developing a "secret" game that will be packaged with it's bb adapter and modem. no details other than they were looking at developing a first party title to be packed in. i imagine some sort of mario kart.

Actually, in Japan, the GBA can go online using a cell phone adapter. Pretty nifty, eh? :)

Btw, online Mario Kart would OWN! If they are going to make a pack in game, that'd probably be the one :)

confused. you mean the game will be out before any gc online game? it will be, but the online component wont be playable until march 2002, same as when the gc network launches. maybe i misunderstood you.

I wish Nintendo wouldn't have the option of a 56k modem; it just sucks for gaming and they need to get away from that and have broadband only.
