Will X58 Be compatible with "Wolfdale" CPUS?

I have been trying to read up on the new X58 chipset and it seems that the only CPUs that will work on it will be the Nehelm?

If this is the case, does this mean that ALL X58 mobos will have the new socket and nobody will be able to use socket 775 CPUs?

it seems as though thats how its going to work out. although im sure ASRock will produce a board that will take both like they usually do. or maybe even gigabyte.

Short answer: no.

Longer one: No, X58 is LGA1366; completely new socket the only way it would work is if some company would make an adapter and even still that chance is less than 1%. If anything, you might find a X58 board with DDR2/DDR3 channels but that is it.

Somebody correct me if I?m wrong but from what I know Nehalem features an integrated memory controller. If so then the X58 won?t have a memory controller hub like the older chipsets as it won?t be needing it. LGA775 cpus do not have a memory controller so I would say that there is a 0% chance of seeing an adapter or some other solution that will make LGA775 cpus work on X58 boards.

You'll be able to use s775 on s775 MBs but not on LGA1366 MBs.
Not sure why you'd want to anyway.

Correct, it would be like wanting a K8 motherboard that could also take K7 Athlons. Not going to happen.

So I won't have to "BUY" a new CPU??

OH, well, I suppose I better get in some more overtime at work...

No, you'll need a new CPU, there won't be socket 775 nehalem boards at all. Socket 775 Penryn systems will still be produced for a while until the mainstream i7 platform comes out later in 2009.

It sure is possible. In fact Asrock did the opposite a few years ago. They made a K7 board with room for an expansion slot that held a new north bridge and socket for the K8.

I don't think they will and I will refer back to this post......
