Will working out once a week even be worth it?

i work 2 full time jobs, i have saturday night off all of sunday off and monday nights off.
monday and saturday nights are time spent with GF and son. so sunday is really the only day i have to do anything, im eating better, and on a regular basis. but would working out or swimming or what ever on sundays even have that much of an affect?

Hell yes. It's more than enough to get in a good shape if you do it properly, and don't sit on your behind the rest of the time.

Yep, definitely helps. I've lost 20+ pounds since January (about all I needed to lose) by moderate weightlifting every 7-10 days, and playing tennis 1-2 times a week.

Are you talking about only doing cardio? In my opinion, a once a week full-body resistance training workout would probably be better than one cardio session.

Well, undoubtedly it would be better than nothing. Swimming is always considered one of the best forms of cardio (low-impact/little risk of injury).

In order to judge whether it's "worth it" for you, we'd have to know your current health status and what health status you would realistically hope to be at.

I thought you meant lifting, as once a week of lifting would be good excercise for your muscles. Once a week of swimming is still good, but generally you want to perform aerobic activities more than once a week.

IMO, I'd try to get in a more regular but smaller swim into my schedule. 3 times a week. And then use that Sunday for lifting to some extent.

you don't need to be at a gym to work out. You can be anywhere you want. Hell, I've done pushups and situps at work in my cubicle. Just make sure you don't have any meetings afterwards ;)

In that case, I bet it would be worth it. I'm still a believer that one day of weight training + improved diet is better overall for cardio, but you'll definitely be able to lose a few points off your body fat percentage if you can swim well enough to keep your intensity level high throughout.

Also, you may want to ask this question elsewhere. You'll likely get more opinions from a better target audience, I frequent and I'd recommend the forums at www.bodybuilding.com.

Doesn't sound like you're too far gone to me. You already do an awful lot and I'm not sure it'd be healthy to add another slavish obligation to your life. For the sake of your sanity, I'd say just watch what you eat and try to do things with your gf/son that involve physical activity, like hiking or going to the playground or bikes, etc. But keep what little free time you have purely for your own enjoyment.

Why are you working so much dude? Sounds like you have bitten of a bit more than you wanna chew financially. Why don't you sacrafice and let a couple things go, so you are not killing yourself with work?

It's better than nothing, but you will not see much if any difference in your conditioning.
