I have a very slight chip in my windshield from where I got hit by a stone on the highway.

I have to take my car for a state inspection.....will they fail it for that?

I believe it would not fail if it is small and not in the drivers field of view.

Now a crack on the other hand......

It depends on how big I think.... If its big as an orange, I wouldn't be surprised if you fail.

You can always use a windshield repair kit thats available at any AutoZone, Checkers and such for $12 or so.

its not a crack.....its a chip about 1/4"

they may not even notice it......but if they are looking for it......I could have a problem

EDIT: its not in line of view, its down low

You can probably go to your state's government site and look up the rules for inspection. In VA they only fail it if it's in the driver's line of sight.

IF it's smaller than a quarter why not get it fixed before you go for the inspection?

Same here. My dad had a small chip in the top corner and it passed fine over in Wayne a few years back.

I agree. Inspection is a good excuse for fixing the windshield. He won't regret fixing it anyway.
