Will Windows 8 be irrelevant to regular PC users?

I don't think it will snubbed. I think it will serve it's purpose. I think MS realizes that Win7 will have legs so they are focusing on user interaction instead of guts. Win8 is more like Win7 with some tweaks and a major interface update. Instead of creating a mobile only version of the OS for devices and a seperate PC version, they are combining it all in one and allow for versatility.

Good stuff Anteaus,,, But I mean do we really need huge banners to go to our pictures or videos or apps ? That is totally like Windows 8 Phone,, To me Winblowz 8 will be Windows 7 with a new SKIN which you can already do with windowblinds etc, and have that Metro interface for blind people I guess,, I dont need that metro stuff so I heard you can turn it off,,, resource hog probably too and slows down system..... gl

Will the numskulls at MS fix the saving window sizes bug. I have to use shellfolderfix.exe and it remembers all your folder views like vista or XP. with Win7 it doesnt remember your winbloz sizes and icons... sad... I bet they will fix that in Winblow8 but its all good I will stick to my single exe file small footprint that fixes what MS Botched, They also said they did it on purpose and will never change it.

So unless you are running shellfolderfix.exe your window sizes and position will never be saved,,,,,,,, gl

Windows 8 will be irrelevant because of the crappy interface they are putting on it. I swear that metro thing is the ugliest, most useless thing ever. There is no more "Start" menu, no folder groups, nothing useful. If you want to start something you have to go back to the gay ass tiles. It takes like 4 steps to get a command prompt now if you want one, sorry I will be passing on this one and sticking with 7 for a long time.

There are different interfaces included with Win8. The most common screen shots are for the mobile variations as well as the new PC ones that are designed to work with touch screens. No where did MS say they were getting rid of the more familier mousecentric interface, although I'm sure it will be tweaked as it is with every major release.

The above. What I think alot of people dont understand is that the regular desktop(this i know) and i believe the start menu will be in there.

The metro look interface will be main interface for the table versions. I think in the Developer Preview, they hard set the metro to On to get developers to help see and start programming towards it.

we would have to wait for the beta in feb to know for sure

They have stated, i think it was in the official building win 8 blog, that they are going to allow via group policy to turn on and off the metro ui, so i can see it being an option for normal desktop and laptops

I hope so because metro sucks. The most apt comparison I can think of is like trying to use an iPad with a mouse, it just doesnt work.

In the developer version there is no start menu. Hit the Windows globe in the lower left hand corner and it pops you back out to Metro. It is the reason my Win8 laptop hasn't been used in months.

I think windows 8 has a horrible schedule.

They should at least work on supporting windows 7 and improving anything needing improvement before immediately making a follow up OS.

Windows 7 has been great and sold really well. We don't need a new OS every year or every other year. Just patch it. Maybe release a service pack.

At this point in time, I see no reason to buy windows 8.

The only reason why I went with windows 7 was for the 64 bit OS (4+ gigs of memory) and windows live movie maker. Movie maker live has certain features that windows xp movie maker does not have.

If I go with windows 8 I will still be using firefox for my browser, thunderbird for my email and steam for my games. I an do all of that on windows 7.

I usually skip every other version of windows. I skipped millennium edition, skipped vista and will probably skip windows 8.

If windows 8 came with a free tablet, then I could see buying it.

Microsoft have already stated awhile back they are going back to 3 year cycle for new OS so no surprise there,as to Win7 well it has SP1 already and I believe Win7 SP2 is supposed to being coming out around June 2012.

I agree Win7 is a great OS, but you know Microsoft they always have something new around the corner.

What do you think in Win7 needs improved? I'm sure MS has a list of bugs, otherwise they wouldn't be releasing service packs for it. But I can't really think of anything I would like MS to fix other than core things that will likely never be fixed to my satisfaction, like network browsing.

I really wish MS would do smaller, quicker updates like Linux but that doesn't work for their business model.

How about apps like what is available for smart phones? And I am not talking about full blown applications like games. Do a google search for windows 7 apps store, and the first things that come up are windows phone, and amazon software store.

I would like microsoft to open some kind of apps store on the microsoft site where people can submit software for distribution.

How about an improved version of windows movie maker live.

How about microsoft stop trying to market so many versions of windows? How many versions of windows 7 are there? This gets confusing to people.

How about a way for smart phones to sync with windows 7 over a wireless network? Why cant my wife sync the pictures on her droid with her home computer over our wireless network?

How about being able to buy a barebones tablet (no OS), and install windows 7 on it?

When I buy a copy of windows 7 for the desktop, microsoft could have included a downloadable tablet version.

The days of us being tied to our desktop are over, microsoft needs to accept that and adapt.

Given that Apple has one for OS X, I would think that's already in the works, although it'll probably be intended for Win8.

That's already done so it's too late to take it back. Hopefully they won't make that mistake again with Win8.

That's more on the manufacturer to produce software for that as there's no standards currently. And if MS develops one, I'm sure it'll be for WP7 first.

That defeats the purpose of a tablet as an "appliance" and is on the manufacturers, not MS.

Certain Win7 SKUs have tablet apps, but it's nothing as complete for touch input as Android or iOS.
