Will win 2K pro run office 97?

Everytime I try to install office 97, on a my new system with w2k pro, I get an error saying it don't run 16 bit software. Am I just screwing up somewhere?

It sounds like it is time to upgrade. You are afterall 2 versions behind and have not paid your dues.

Works fine for me. Running O97 on Win2K Pro and XP Pro.

It loaded fine for me too under 2k. I've had no problems using it either.

Personaly, I don't have it installed, but they do have office 97 on my moms computer at work which runs win2k. There shoulden't be a problem.

It should work. That doesn't make sense. Besides, I just installed Office 97 on NT 4 so it should work on 2000.

What service pack level is your W2K at? Perhaps updating to the latest service pack may help.

XP home also runs Office97 just fine, friend has it loaded.

I know you're probably just trying to be a jackass, but in general, MS products don't have backwards compatibility issues. Office 97 works fine with 2k.

I wasnt trying to just be a jackass. I had seen a lot of problems with 2k/xp and Office 97 on various boards and whatnot. The 16bit emulator or whatever for 2k seems to be a little flakey at times and thought that may be another problem. I just stated it in a jackassish way

Yup. I have it installed on 4 of my Win2K systems. No problems at all.

It's not flakey. No one knows how to configure 16 bit apps properly is all.

I have installed Office 97 SR2 on W2K (w/no SP, SP1, or SP2) PCs countless times with no problems.

It's not flakey. No one knows how to configure 16 bit apps properly is all. >>

OK problem solved, I forgot to d/l the latest service pack. Thanks for the lead guyz. Now office 97 goes right in.
