Will Wii prices come down any time soon?

I was looking at purchasing a Wii for my daughter who is eight but scared away from the prices. The games are equal to what a 1ghz machine with a Geforce4 pc which means the only thing were paying for here is that neat controller. No way in hell I'm paying $400 for that.
Are Wii priced expected to drop any time soon?
I suspect not since there is really in a class of its own.

price drop? why would Nintendo stop printing money.... heh.

I highly doubt we'll see a price drop, but Nintendo could easily drop to $200 probably later in the year... assuming they get their supply under control. But we'll see how well they sell into this year. I would think 2009 be the earliest for a price drop.. along w/ wii revision 2.

and don't discount the "only paying for the neat controller." It's definitely a different experience. Well worth it IMO.

and I suspect he's counting all the controllers in his cost.

Well...I would never play it and my daughters game time is limited to an hour per day. Just don't think It's worth paying >$250 for. Especially since I'm a pc guy myself.

Wii's cost $250.

Where?

The question is not where, but when. You can buy a Wii anywhere you can buy a PS3 or Xbox 360 (except a Sony store 😛), but you have to get really lucky to be there WHEN they have them available for sale. 😉

I think the question you intended to ask was when the ebay prices will drop or when it will be readily available? We have no idea. I have a friend who is trying to get one, and they seem to have really dried up. Even the big stores don't have many/any on Sunday like they used to. Gamestop must be getting most of them for their preorder deal.

any store you can find em.

I looked on ebay and amazon which are generally as cheap as they come. Neither has them for <$375.

eBay is not cheap when it comes to high demand consoles/items. You're paying a premium at that point.

The price you see on Amazon is not the Amazon price but the price that individuals are trying to sell the Wii on Amazon (much like eBay).

Sign up for WiiAlerts.com and you'll be able to find out when stores get them in stock.

As others have pointed out MSRP is $250. Unfortunately, more than a year after the console was first released, it is still somewhat difficult to find in stores. Really there's no reason for Nintendo to lower the price, obviously people are willing to pay much more than that for them because they go for $350+ on eBay all the time. Until demand tapers off (which may not happen for a while yet), I don't see Nintendo dropping the price.

Buy the system, a game and some accessories and you are looking at over 400 dollars.
Just like a xbox cost 300bucks but after you 'hook it up' you are looking at over 600 dollars.

You can get the basic system and have fun for $250 MSRP. It comes with a controller and Wii Sports.

MSRP is what the stores are selling so no need to pay scalp prices off of fleabay and others. I suspect now that the Christmas rush is over, supply will start catching up and stores will have them.

If you want to buy one an the normal store price, go into your Walmart or Target etc, and start asking what day they take delivery (UPS truck). The Walmart I bought my daugher her Wii the week before Christmas normally got them in on Tues or Wed each week around 10 or 10:30 am. If you show up when the truck gets here, go to the electronics dept and ask them if the truck came today and get in line to buy one. Thats how I got mine, and right before Christmas too.

BWAHAHAHAHA! Holy hell... that was pretty funny. Oh man, they can't even keep it on the shelves and he wants to know if the prices will drop soon.

Thanks OP, I needed that.

Yeah if anything they could *raise* the price on the consoles, although something like that would never happen. Nintendo really has no reason to drop prices yet, they're still selling like crazy at $250.

Exactly. The system's been out for over a year and there's still lines in front of stores on Sunday mornings to buy them... Demand >>>>> Supply

Uh, did you read what he said? He was complaining about prices way above MSRP! The point is, the prices he can buy a Wii for is alot lower than that already! Duh! Just pay MSRP at a store for $250 and forget teh $400 scalpers. Anyone paying near $400 is just too impatient and obviously people are taking advantage of their impatience where money is no object.

So, it looks like the OP isn't talking about retail prices dropping. Good grief, read the post before busting up laughing. You make me laugh!

heh, well, i wouldn't think much more that $250 for the base console either. hadn't realized when i wrote that you were talking more about the current "market" price.
