Everything that is out right now on the NV30 is rumors and nothing is offical yet except for it being at the Comdex duirng Nov 18 to 22nd i beleive.

So will we know the real **Offical** specs of the NV30 at least by Nov 18 ?

i am sure we will get the lowdown on it by then.

But when will it show on retail shelves is another issue all together.

The best guesses are that it won't be on store shelves until sometime around Christmas - maybe even later.

Yeah, you of all people will be really happy if NV30 is paper released months before it hits retail shelves as long as it beats R9700! Just don't forget ATi will swing back with R350 at just about the same time NV30 starts hitting retail shelves.

GTaudiophile thats why i want the NV30 to come out so the R350 can come out and be even faster! We can never have fast enough. Plus just more FSAA and AF we will beable to turn on because the R350 should step up a big notch! Even if the NV30 take alittle while longer its ok because then it just gives ATI more time with the R350 and beyond!!!!! But just like there always is after te ATI R350 comes out then nvidia will come out with something new i am sure then ATI once again and i hope this cycle keeps going for a very long time each trying to outdo the other! This will be good for the consumer, make prices cheaper faster on the video cards one cycle behind, keep each company awake, make nvidia and ati improve their drivers even more, better image quality, etc!!



 
Glad you're still not taking flak over NV30 stuff. I still worry anytime someone mentions "Sapphire".

its funny how people show their bias... nvidia will have an answer to the Radeon 9700 mark my words... they know how strong the 9700 is and that's why they're gonna make the nv30 even better, I wouldn't be supprised if they hold back release until they do ... after all this is competition and Nvidia has withstood competition from matrox, ati, and could be considered a catalyst to voodoo's death.

Um... nVidia BOUGHT 3dfx, not "put them out of business". This was a case of dollars more than product, but moving on...

I would certainly HOPE that nVidia's long-awaited NV30 IS faster than the R300. After all, ATI has brought out the R300 in four flavours so far, PRO with 256-bit w/ uber-fast RAM, new non-pro 256-bit with merely-fast RAM, 9500Pro 128-bit, and 9500CheapO with half the pipelines for shady OEM's to pretend is something better. 😛 That's not including the 9000 series "value" chip or the 9700 with this new DDRII memory, etc. That's a heck of a lot of development, all while we've been "patiently" waiting for NV30.

Yes, the NV30 should be faster than the R300 because it's been in development a LONG time - longer than the R300 has been around (so this isn't merely "an answer to the Radeon 9700Pro").
Worse yet for nVidia, the R350 is being developed.... if the NV30 takes back the speed crown, it might be shorter-lived than nVidia would hope.

Me? I'm rooting for the guys with hardware DVD, video de-blocking, 6xAA and high AF without much performance hit, and other things that make the output pretty, not merely fast. I can't help but smile and think that they're fellow Canadians. 😉

Does it really matter since Nvidia will counter with NV40 etc and it will continue between ATI and Nvidia as the top king on the block for a short period of time ,in the end we all know that no graphics card stays in top spot for long,both Nvidia and ATi are making fasters card and in the end we are the ones that`ll benefit.Lets just be happy we will have more choices to choose from both brands.

How much more of a price drop are you looking for?

The 4200 has been available in Hot Deals off-and-on for around $100-130. The Radeon 8500 for less than $100 (depending on flavor).

The "buy or wait" question is easily answered by 1) how much available funds you have and 2) how irritated you are with your current old hardware.

appopin, my computer I'm using now is complete rubbish... when I say complete rubbish I mean it 🙂 It is over 5yrs old (which cost, £1,800 at the time - gah) and using onboard graphics card, you can imagine how crappy that is 😉

I play half-life deathmatch quite alot and was getting a little irriated in that sense. I'm currently building a new computer, and am about to post the setup in a new thread.. if you look at the thread I'm lookin to spend about £100-£110 on one (I know I know, but I'm a student). Unfortunately I can't go into hotdeals forums, as I live in the UK. Just wondering what advice you can give from that I guess 🙂

Then I'd say don't bother with a TI4200 - upgrade EVERYTHING in one shot! I know it costs more... Keep your eyes open for an nForce2 board which'll give you free video too. 😉 Not a Ti4200, but considering your 5yr old CPU, the Ti4200 just won't do much for you. (Don't get me wrong, you'll see a difference, but not nearly as much as you SHOULD see.
Keep saving your pennies... you need to upgrade badly! (If you're gaming that is...)
nForce2 boards should be trickling out very soon..... we hope! 🙂
