We now have players that will play MP3s that are burned to a CD in data format. For use at home in a car and portables. Will we ever see a player that can play mp3s (or any other compressed form) that are burned onto a DVD?

I think that would rule. I love that my car can play MP3 CDs but a MP3 DVDs would be even better. 4.7GB of songs on 1 CD

What do you think

I would imagine so, I don't think it would be very hard to impliment.

Man, I could fit almost my entire collection on one DVD.

Yes, my DVD player can play MP3s burned onto DVD, and I think I remember reading about a portible DVD player that could play MP3s.

Yes. A $40 set-top DVD player can do it. It's only a matter of time. The tough part is them finally making portable DVD players that don't cost an arm and a leg, really.
Oh, and it's actually 4.38 real GB (4.7x10^9 / 1024^3), the 4.7 is marketting with x1000 for kilo, mega and giga.

The problem is that the dvd disc size locks you into certain form factors, whereas HDD-based mp3 players can be made ever smaller with ever more capacity.
