Will we ever see some exciting memory on the DDR2 platform

Yes i know DDR2 is designed to be a bandwidth monster, but i was always a low latency + high frequency junkie with my TCCD sticks.

I couldn?t care less about DDR2 1000+ sticks if i ever purchase a Conroe/AM2 setup, because i really dont think that i would be utilising all that bandwidth.

I want to see that magical 2-2-2-x whilst running a high frequency again.

Are those days lost forever

I highly doubt we'll see DDR2 at those tight timings, but one can hope when AM2 comes out, DDR2 memory makers will need tighter timings than what is currently on the market.

yes they are gone forever. DDR2 is not designed to be bandwidth monster, it's designed to be DIRT CHEAP!

I think the closest DDR2 has gotten to BH-5/TCCD is the Micron fat body D or current Elpida chips. While it's not 2-2-2 they do apparently scale to higher frequencies with the tight timings (for DDR2 anyway) intact.

With 4-4-4-2x ddr2, you'd have the same real latency as with 2-2-2-x running at half the data rate so things really aren't as bad as you think.
