Will we ever see rationing again from war?

With all of the resource we now have, do you think we'll ever see food/gas/resource rationing again because of a war (or other reasons)? I was just watching a show on the rationing that was implemented during the WWII and it's amazing. People could only buy so much potatoes, meat, and gasoline.

I personally don't think it'll happen as our infrastructure is quite different now than it used to be... though we do rely more of imports from other countries. I suppose that would mean that the exports from the US would be redircted to it's population versus outside. I remember talking about something like this is a business class a couple of semesters ago.

Anyway, what do you think? You will think it'll happen again?

probably. But this would only occur if a large scale war were to erupt. Going into Iraq isn't a large scale war. It's actually quite small.

Perhaps gasoline, if things get bad. OPEC shutting off oil in addition to the Venez. oil strike could do it. Nuclear war would cause the infrastructure to shut down for a bit too.

Because of drought, we are probably going to see water rationing in the southwest. gas rationing will probably follow, and if that happens, truckers may not get the fuel to get product to market, making supply and demand a government controled commodity, called rationing.

Anything is possible. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

Call me silly, but why does gas rationing follow water rationing?

Truckers will always get fuel to bring needed goods to market, IE: food, rubber, oil, metal, etc. Computer games wouldn't be high on the list.

There is little possibility of food rationing to divert food to the military. The military has vast stockpiles of "food" if needed for combat troops.

I don't see where water rationing comes into play here for military use. Because of a drought though, I can see it. CA. residents have been dealing with that for years.

During the SPAM war (Spanish-American war), US troops ate 30-40 year old food rations from the Union army during the Civil War *yuck!*

Come on people.....with the strenght of the US military these days wars won't last long enough to even worry about rationing of any kind.

Happened during Carters tenure. No war then. If the middle eastern countries decide to embargo as a result of the Iraq adventure, and Venezuela still isnt producing, we could be in a bit of a mess.
